Carlos Peña discusses the situation of institutions and justice in Chile on BSVV

The Chancellor of the Universidad Diego Portales (UDP), Carlos Peña, visited Barros Silva Varela & Vigil and addressed the current situation of institutions and justice in Chile.

Moderated by Claudia Ferreiro, partner of the firm and UDP alumni, Peña led, together with a group of lawyers and guests, a profound and necessary discussion on the institutionality and challenges of the legal profession.

On the occasion, associate Juan Ignacio Johnson took notes that we share in the following document (available only in Spanish).

 

Carlos Peña is a lawyer with a Master's degree in Sociology from the Pontificia Universidad Católica and a PhD in Philosophy with a major in Moral and Political Philosophy from the Universidad de Chile. He has been Chancellor of the Diego Portales University since 2007, professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Chile, and visiting professor at various universities. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Ciper, and advisor to the Municipal Theatre of Santiago, arbitrator of the Arbitration and Mediation Centre of the Santiago Chamber of Commerce and has been a lecturer at the World Bank, Stanford University, Carlos III University in Madrid, and in various Latin American countries on issues of modernisation of the justice system, among many others. He is also the author of several works on philosophy, law and society, and a Sunday columnist for the newspaper El Mercurio.

Together with Claudia Ferrerio, the UDP Chancellor reflected on the challenges of institutions and the legal profession.
